Can You Sell Yourself In 60 Seconds?

We spend a lot of time working within our local community to support young people as they take their first steps into further education or employment. We have students join us for work experience, interns for the summer and frequently visit local schools to take part in events, talks, workshops and other initiatives. A number of our colleagues also participate in a mentor scheme where they support students, share their knowledge and help them take their next steps.

We recently supported Sir Robert Pattinson Academy at the Careers England Careers, Education & Guidance Summit 2015 and presented how we work together, the importance of work experience for the students and also how it fits in with our ethos. To complement this we’ve created some hints and tips on what employers look for and how to prepare when applying for jobs. We’ve put together some steps; preparing your CV, pitfalls to avoid when applying for a job, preparation and research prior to an interview followed by the interview itself. One of our favourites is the elevator pitch where you have 60 seconds to make an impact. Much harder than it sounds! These have been developed with our colleagues who drew on their own experiences to create some tips that may just give you the edge!
