Ready And Fully Prepared
We’re connected with several local schools and love visiting them to discuss careers, participate in mock interview days and offer advice on what to expect in the world of work. It was during one of these sessions that Neil Everatt first met Oli Reid, an a-level student from Sir Robert Pattinson Academy who got in touch with Neil for advice and guidance on his career, job applications and running a business. Students can quite often be shy and nervous around professionals in the business world and so the confidence Oli showed when contacting Neil to ask for advice and guidance is an example other students his age should follow.
We were delighted to find out this week that Oli has been successful in his application for a management apprenticeship at the Royal Mail after a rigorous selection process. He kindly contacted us to say thank you for our help and guidance. It’s worth noting, while we may have helped him, it is Oli's hard work and effort that got him to the interviewing panel and beyond.
“As an individual who had a passion for business from a young age I struggled to find the motivation and realisation within the boundaries of the traditional education system. The careers teaching at school provides a wide and comprehensive range of information, but it cannot offer the level of information and experience that local and national businesses can.
I decided that I needed corporate experience in a national business before starting my own business, which led me to begin an application process for a role in operations management to develop many transferable skills. I connected with Software Europe and Autofil Worldwide who both helped me develop my skills needed for the application from CV checking to interview techniques. This was only possible due to the dedication and commitment of all staff at both businesses from CEO downwards. They provided their time to talk, answer emails, messages and provide training and for that I am forever grateful for.
Having visited Software Europe numerous times, I learnt that the staff are motivated by the culture and values that they instil and this is something I think that more companies should follow. The staff supported me on social media through increased connections on LinkedIn and Neil and Deborah (Sales & Marketing Director) gave up their time to answer phone calls, emails, messages and 1-2-1 training time. The support from Software Europe during my application was fantastic and I felt ready and fully prepared when the day came round.
Without the help of both businesses my drive and motivation would not be as strong as it is now. Having Software Europe come to my school at such a key time when I was thinking about my next steps was invaluable. If businesses are to successfully work together in education, then having charismatic, energetic, inspiring and knowledgeable individuals within a business will build confidence in students, and improve the skills they need in the world of work."
